Best Practices for Water Management in Berry Cultivation

We invite you to participate in this online seminar, which will focus on the use of water in berry farming.

We will address this topic with the participation of two qualified experts from the Institute of Agricultural, Fisheries, Food, and Ecological Production Research and Training (IFAPA, Junta de Andalucía): Pedro Gavilán Zafra, Senior Researcher, and Natividad Ruíz Baena, Senior Specialist Technician. They will deliver a presentation titled “The Role of IFAPA in Sustainable Irrigation in the Doñana National Park Area.”

We will also feature the presentation of the best practice “Autonomous on-demand irrigation in strawberry cultivation in Huelva: The value chain’s commitment to sustainability,” an engaging project focused on efficient water use, being implemented by the companies SVZ/INNOCENT. This presentation will be delivered by Sébastien Guery, who is directly involved in the project.

This online seminar, part of the Ethical Trade Forums, is developed in collaboration with the collective action project promoted by WRAP.

The collective water action initiative in Spain, promoted by the British organization WRAP in collaboration with the Dutch organization IDH-SIFAV, is supported by 24 British and European companies in the food sector. It channels the interest of European markets in fostering sustainable water management in priority food production areas for international supply chains. The long-term objective is to help improve the health and resilience of watersheds, water contexts, and associated ecosystems in these areas.

One of the project’s priority action areas is the Doñana-Huelva region, where a work plan has been developed considering the context and interests of producers, value chains, local stakeholders, and aligned with public sustainability policies. One of the key approaches is promoting and disseminating agricultural best practices as a means of contributing to the initiative’s overarching goals. For this reason, it aims to encourage knowledge exchange on topics such as sustainable water management on farms.
