We kick-start our work with the Sustainability Working Group

Due to the growing demand from members of the Ethical Trade Forums and following the positive comments on this topic presented in one of the online Forums last year, we have proceeded to the creation of a working group to offer its members a place to discuss and proactively foster different important topics for them and their stakeholders.

Regarding the status of this group, it is important to note that it is in its very initial stage. The members had their first meeting as a group on the 18th of January this year. Due to the wide scope and diversity of topics that could fall under this umbrella, the first meeting saw a discussion of an initial proposal to channel the activities of the working group towards the European Green Deal, with a particular focus to two of its main initiatives: the biodiversity strategy and the “farm to fork” strategy.

In general, this proposal had a very positive reception, making a note to the wide variety of topics and actions that could come out of it. Nevertheless, the working group members had a very active discussion as to which topics to focus on (within the scope of the proposal) to start the creation and development of useful resources. The group discussed topics such as capacity building, soil, water and production management, waste reduction, carbon footprint and many more.

As a main group exercise, the members are in the middle of a self-reflection process, listing their own projects and initiatives that could be considered as “best practices” to then analyse commonalities, challenges and wishes to move forward.

If you are interested in becoming a member of this working group, do not hesitate to contact Montse Barberá (montse@conexionsocial.com) promptly so that we can put you in touch with the group.
