On January 22, a visit was made to the facilities of Grupo Paloma, in Murcia, organized in conjunction with the Ethical Trade Forums. This is the second activity of this type organized by the Sustainability Working Group.
A total of 16 people participated, belonging to the companies Prima Fruit, AMT Fresh, DPS, Catman North, Ecoinver, San Lucar Group, El Ciruelo, Bonnysa, Kettle Produce, Grupo Gs, AG Olives, Fruca Marketing. All of them accompanied by a representative of the Ethical Trade Forums.
The visit was led by Ana Hernández (R&D Director) together with Elena Blaya (Environmental Manager), who explained their sustainability initiatives, such as the biodiversity conservation action plans, and the various investments made to achieve a circular economy.
The day began with a visit to the company’s facilities in Águilas, a farm of 80 hectares of tomato greenhouses. These are high-tech greenhouses, where the use of irrigation water is optimized to the maximum with a drainage recirculation system. Here, Ana and Elena explained in detail their production processes and some of the actions they are carrying out to optimize resources:
- Optimization of water use.
- Preservation of biodiversity and biological control.
- Reduction of the carbon and water footprint of their crops.
The 16 participants were very interested in the topics that were addressed, asking questions, and finally expressing their gratitude to Grupo Paloma for the generosity of sharing their knowledge and good practices in sustainability.
The Ethical Trade Forums added to the gratitude of the participants to Grupo Paloma, which is a company with a clear focus on sustainability and a strong commitment to the circular economy.
