The apellando alliance invited the Ethical Trade Forums to participate as panelists in an online conversation with experts from the agricultural sector, which was inspired by the new documentary “The Pickers”.

The documentary examines the living and working conditions of migrant workers in the fruit and vegetable fields of Europe. In a non-accusatory style, the film allows us to get to know the human beings behind our produce.

The Pickers will be launched to the public in March 2025, and prior to its launch, a campaign has been organized to defend the rights of immigrant workers. To this end, an online conversation was held on February 26 with experts from the fruit and vegetable sector and filmmaker Elke Sasse to discuss solutions and see examples of best practice.

The Ethical Trade Forums were represented by Sergio Barberá (ETFA General Secretary), who spoke of the need for a change in mentality and leadership that focuses on values and ethics, promotes responsible supply chains, and gets purchasing departments involved in these issues.

In addition to the Ethical Trade Forums, panelists included Elke Sasse, a documentary filmmaker who has been making documentaries on a wide range of topics for 20 years. Also on the panel were Shayne Tyler, an expert in practical ethics and social governance in the supply chain, Elena D’Anna, who works for No Cap, an Italian association that promotes respect for human, social and environmental rights in agriculture, and Kristian Moeller, CEO of appellando.
