The Hotel Nelva hosted the 2018 edition of the International Ethical Trade Forums in which 123 attendants and a total of 97 companies were present. In Murcia, where a majority of agricultural workers are recruited through labour agencies, the Forum focused primarily on worker communication and inclusion within the workplace.

The ETF developed according to the challenges highlighted by the Suppliers at the Regional Forums held last June:

• There is a dependency on labour agencies.
• Companies are developing new strategies to recruit workers in origin countries.
• The companies do not have the management systems and procedures in place to effectively communicate and manage a multicultural/ multilingual workforce.

Regarding good practices with Labour Agencies, Alfonso Herias, from Gs Spain, gave a presentation on Responsible recruitment and ran a workshop on the steps and methodology to monitor labour agencies, as well as the monitoring tools.

Moreover, Marisol Margalef, from Looije, with the support of Francisco Javier Castaño Cerro, from Comisiones Obreras Union, based her presentation on how to establish a workers committee and its position as a communication tool between workers and the company. Attendees in the subsequent workshop worked on the process to establish a works council and its provisions within the legislation.

In addition, different workshops and round tables developed in which the reception plans were addressed (José Francisco Pérez, from El Ciruelo, and Clara Hervás, from AMC Juices), as well as the challenges related to labour in agricultural sector.

Francisco Javier Castaño, from CCOO, presented research from the trade unions on the practices of Spanish producers and the submerged economy and non declared work., as well as method for uncovering non declared workers and hours.
