As a result of what happened in the Valencian Community with the cut-off low, the Ethical Trade Forums held a meeting with companies interested in collaborating with those affected by this situation.
As a result of this meeting, the option of helping two educational centers located in Catarroja, one of the towns most affected, came up. Both schools have suffered serious damage to their infrastructure and need to be rebuilt. The educational centers are CEIP Vila Romana and IES Berenguer Dalmau.
CEIP Vila Romana is a nursery and primary school, with 14 years of existence. They have 2 classrooms for each grade plus a specific unit with 9 students with special educational needs. They are going to repair the damage to the infrastructure, which will take about a month, but they do not know when they will start. The aid requested consists of: trees, playground equipment and plants for the school playground, educational materials, consumables and auxiliary furniture. The total amount is €35,948.64.
For its part, the IES Berenguer Dalmau is an emblematic high school in the area, with 57 years old. They do not know if they will be able to rehabilitate it, or if they will have to demolish it and rebuild it. It has a lot of open spaces; it is different from what high schools are usually like. They would like to recover this environment, but probably they will have to build a new center with prefabricated units. The help they need is to recover the technology room, which is worth €35,000.
It has been agreed that the first funding will go to the CEIP Vila Romana school, because its structure did not suffer such serious damage, and it will be able to restart classes in a short period of time. Once the amount required by the school has been reached, the funds will be transferred to IES Berenguer Dalmau.
